WELCOME

to our newly opened Bernau Visitor Centre for the Bauhaus UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Located in a peaceful, quiet wooded area away from the big city, we offer architecture, art and history in close connection with nature.

The Bauhaus ensemble can be experienced with expert guided tours, exciting workshops and exhibitions around the Bauhaus World Heritage Site.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site
The ADGB Trade Union School in Bernau is an important testimony to modern architecture and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "The Bauhaus and its sites in Weimar, Dessau and Bernau" since 2017.

The ADGB Trade Union School
The former ADGB Trade Union School (General German Trade Union Federation) was designed and implemented by the Bauhaus in 1928 to 1930 under the leadership of director Hannes Meyer according to the guidelines of the Bauhaus and the principles of modern pedagogy. It is a unique ensemble of school buildings, teachers' residences and dormitory houses as well as rooms and facilities for supply and leisure, which want to be "walked through" both outside and inside.

The building impresses with its technical refinements, novel materials, elegant pragmatic solutions for lighting and ventilation and has lost none of its aesthetics despite its turbulent history.

Detailed information on the history of the Trade Union School's construction and use can be found on the website of the association baudenkmal bundesschule bernau e.V.

Please note the following during your visit:

The former ADGB Trade Union School is not a public building and therefore not accessible to the public. A visit of the interior is only possible in combination with a guided tour!

We would also like to point out that photography is not permitted inside the former Trade Union School!

Animals have to wait outside.
