Summer program 2022

Bauhaus jewelry based on Anni Albers
The Trade Union School made of Lego

Workshop 1

Bauhaus jewelry based on Anni Albers

Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers not only designed the beautiful silver fabric for the auditorium of the Trade Union School in Bernau, she also set completely new standards in jewelry design. Inspired by her travels through Peru and Mexico, where she became familiar with the handicrafts of indigenous peoples, she and one of her students, Alexander Reed, developed jewelry from the simplest household resources. Following her creations, in this workshop, necklaces and bracelets will be made from washers, nutscrews, gift ribbons, peg chains and hairpins.

The results will surprise you!

Workshop 2

The Trade Union School made of Lego

This workshop is a true Coop project and thus completely in the spirit of the architect of the Trade Union School, the Bauhaus director Hannes Meyer. "Coop" comes from "cooperation" and means "working together." We will start with a tour around the World Heritage Site to see what they look like in reality. You may already recognize shapes and connections there that will help you build the Lego model later. Then we will go back to the Visitor Center, where we will have a look at the model of the former federal school and the teacher's houses that are located there. What has changed since it was built in 1930? And then we're off!

Date: Thursday, 21 July 2022
Time: 12 am
Cost of Participation: 1 EUR
Duration: 1 – 1,5 hours
Age: 8 to 99

Cyanotype
Letters are hidden in the Bauhaus architecture

Workshop 3

Cyanotype

Cyanotype - also called blue printing - is one of the oldest methods of photography. The British scientist Anna Atkins made cyanotype known in her books as early as 1850. In this workshop, you will use natural materials you collected yourself, objects you brought along, and paper shapes you cut out or tore to explore how photographs were taken even before there were cameras or even smartphones. Along the way, you'll make great pictures that you can later frame or give away as cards. Are you curious? Then drop by and enter the darkroom!

Date: Thursday, 4 August 2022
Time: 12 am
Cost of Participation: 3 EUR
Duration: 1 hour
Age: 8 to 99

Workshop 4

Letters are hidden in the Bauhaus architecture

In this workshop, we will use our smartphones or tablets (which you can borrow from us at the Visitor Center) to search for letters hidden in the shapes of the buildings on the Bauhaus campus. The bike racks remind you of an M? Take a picture of them! There's an X in the window? Take a picture! At the end, we'll put your discoveries together in a presentation and look at them together on the screen. We are looking forward to seeing what you discover!
