Field trip for school classes

The pupils will move around the grounds of the former Trade Union School and learn a lot about the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Bauhaus in a playful and collaborative way. In the visitor center, they can then creatively implement the ideas and inspiration they have acquired in our various workshops.

For school classes, we offer a wide range of activities that can be individually adapted to suit age, needs and educational focus. The programmes are designed to fill up to 120 minutes. A maximum of 30 children, divided into smaller teams, can take part. We provide professional guidance and support, in addition to the accompanying teachers.

Combi Package 1

In our Bauhaus rally we send your class divided into 3 groups with questions around the former ADGB Trade Union School. Afterwards, all groups meet again in the visitor center and the solution set is put together. Now the children/teenagers have got an impression of the buildings and have learned about the history.

In the Lego workshop, we then work according to the "Coop principle" in the spirit of the architect of the Trade Union School, the Bauhaus director Hannes Meyer. "Coop" comes from "cooperation" and means "working together". In the visitor center, we first look at the architectural model of the former Trade Union School and the accompanying teachers' houses that are located there. What has changed since it was built in 1930? After that we will build in groups!

Age: from 10 years
Duration: 2 hours

In the children's exhibition "red - yellow - blue. the bauhaus for children" we explore with you how the Bauhaus students experimented and learned. We will weave with Anni Albers, play with light like László Moholy-Nagy, bend miniature tubular steel chairs with Marcel Breuer and much more.

Afterwards, we will create jewellery together out of everyday objects as Anni Albers once did. Inspired by her creations from the simplest household objects, this workshop will produce necklaces and bracelets from washers, nut screws and gift ribbon. The results will surprise you!

Duration: 2 hours
Price: 5 EUR per person

In the photo safari that follows, we use our smartphones or tablets (six tablets are available for lending at the visitor center) to look for letters hidden in the shapes of the buildings on the Bauhaus campus. The bicycle stands remind you of an M? Photograph them! There's an X in the window? Take a picture! At the end, we will put your discoveries together in a presentation and look at them together on the screen. We are looking forward to seeing what you discover!

Afterwards, we will follow in the footsteps of the origins of photography: the cyanotype, also known as blueprint. With natural materials that you have collected yourself, objects that you have brought with you and paper shapes that you have cut out or torn, you will explore in this workshop how photography was done before there were cameras or even smartphones. Along the way, you will produce great pictures that you can later frame or give away as cards.

With our Escape Room boxes, which are hidden across the Bauhaus campus, you can work out facts about the Bauhaus and the history of the former Trade Union School on your own. Each box contains a riddle that must be solved. The solution is the code to the next lock.

Since only a maximum of 8 people can work on the boxes at the same time, the other students can explore our permanent exhibition in the visitor center themselves at the same time. Alternatively, we offer workshops in which we design jewellery based on Anni Albers, go on a photo safari or experiment with cyanotype.
