Placements: A guided tour on bike

Interlocutors: Dr. Anja Guttenberger (Director of the Bauhaus Visitor Center) and Frederiek Weda (Director of the Bernau Gallery)
Moderator: Kira Dell (freelance art mediator)

There are only 20 minutes by bike between the visitor center at the Bauhaus World Heritage Site in Bernau and the Bernau Gallery. We started the dialogical bike tour at Bernau Gallery with the director Frederiek Weda and a talk about the current exhibition as well as the annual program Home, Heart, Places. The guided tour Placements: From Contemporary Art to GDR Prefabricated Building to Bauhaus picks up the theme Home and moves along Bernau's cultural heritage. Directly opposite the gallery are examples of Bernau's prefabricated housing from the 1980s, which we will discuss at a stopover. Together, we then continued to the former Trade Union School. Bauhaus researcher and director of the Visitor Center Bernau, Dr. Anja Guttenberger, introduced the history of the Bauhaus building complex. What does the designation of the former Trade Union School as a UNESCO World Heritage Site mean for Bernau as a place? How can we think of the concept of home against the background of a world community? And which utopian thoughts of the Bauhaus can be connected with it? We will address these questions in a dialogue.

Placements is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg.
